Prez. Mahama arrives in Nigeria over Boko Haram

413090482_330893President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Nigeria to confer with his Nigerian counterpart, Goodluck Jonathan on the way forward in the current security situation of Nigeria.

President Mahama who is visiting Nigeria in his capacity as ECOWAS Chairman will have discussions relating to the atrocities being committed by militant group Boko Haram.

The two leaders are expected to plan on how to rescue the over 200 school girls abducted in Chibok in Borno State of Nigeria.

It is not clear what military contributions Ghana will be making to the West African neighbour.

Senior Communications Director at the Presidency, Ben Dotse Malor told Citi News the country will live up to its usual cooperation of assisting troubled neighbouring countries.

Mr Malor said Ghana has always played key roles in issues like this and “Ghana has also joined other West African countries to help neighbouring countries who find themselves in conflicts keep the peace.’’

He noted that President Mahama will be representing and expressing the feelings of other African leaders.

President Mahama in an earlier statement to Nigerian President said: “We are all outraged over the abduction of over 200 girls from Chibok Government Secondary School in Borno State, Nigeria, and the various other acts of terror that have recently been waged against the Nigerian people.’’

He added in his statement that the destabilisation of any nation in the West African sub-region is a threat to the security of all the other surrounding nations.

‘’We stand in solidarity with the families and friends of our Nigerian brothers and sisters who have become victims of the actions of terrorists in their nation,’’ President said.

He urged the families of those abducted schoolgirls to be strong saying, “we extend our prayers and hope to all the concerned families, especially those of the abducted schoolgirls in the belief that the girls will be freed soon.’’
