Police in Dansoman have begun investigation into a case of attempted child theft after a 35-year-old woman was apprehended by residents.
The residents at Gbegbeyise near Dansoman Last Stop arrested the woman who was alleged to be luring a 3-year-old child from her parents house.
The residents said the woman had gone to the home of the 3-year-old girl and taken her out, while her mother was out buying porridge.
The woman raised an alarm and neighbours who came to her aid were able to trace the suspected child thief to a hideout, which was miles from where she had picked the child.
Manasseh Azure Awuni who visited the Dansoman Police Station said police officials are tightlipped on the matter.
The name of the suspect is yet to be ascertained..
Police, however, say they are now establishing whether the woman had attempted to steal the child as claimed by the residents.
She has since been put into cells.
The country has been on high alert over child thieves after the disappearance of Suweba Abdul Moomen’s child from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in February this year.
Police in Kumasi last week arrested a midwife and two others for allegedly stealing and selling a day old baby.
Fifty-seven year old Chief Executive of Ayiwa Maternity Home, Grace Osei Afriyie and her accomplices were picked up at separate locations upon a tip-off.
The two other suspects are 44 year old Cecilia Annor, a cook at the Kumasi Polytechnic and Comfort Adjei a typist at the Kumasi Children’s Home.
