The first batch of students will be trained at the Sheba Medical Center in Israel.

These were made known by outgoing Minister of Health Sherry Hanny Ayittey on Monday after she joined Parliament’s Select Committee on Health to inspect extent of work on the under-construction teaching hospital in Legon.

The Hospital is projected to be completed in March, 2015 and according to Ms Ayittey, the students will be sent for scheduled courses “so that by the time the Hospital is completed, we will have the core staff because this is a specialized hospital and you need specialized, skilled manpower to take over the management.”

Some of the students will go for six months while others will be in Israel for one year, the Health Minister said.

The new teaching hospital is expected to train medical doctors for the country’s health facilities. It is being funded by the Government of Israel at $217,000.
