Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has challenged the choices made by his manager in their 2-1 loss against the USA on Monday. The German-born player was introduced on the hour mark to replace Jordan Ayew and his influence on the game was clear as Andre Ayew leveled with eight minutes to go.
Kevin-Prince was asked if he was shocked by his omission from the starting lineup. “Yes, I was surprised,” the Schalke man told Germany’s ARD. “Because you’re supposed to start with your best eleven but maybe the coach had a different idea.”
But in a post-match interview as well, Appiah explained why he did not start the experienced duo of Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince. The coach defended his choices, saying that he felt the two would have been better options for the second half. Next for Ghana is Germany on Saturday, June 21 while the USA play Portugal.
