Sammy Awuku says “incompetent Mahama must reshuffle himself’

National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, has described the ongoing ministerial reshuffle as nothing more than a game of “musical chairs” and very “pathetic”.

According to him, President John Dramani Mahama and his administrationhave nothing better to offer Ghanaians, adding that the country’s ailing economy and the hardship Ghanaians are experiencing now are as a result of the current administration’s bad governance.

He thus called on the president to do the country a favour by reshuffling himself to see the betterment of the country.

“Would this reshuffle amount to anything, And those new ones…what will they bring on board? This is just musical chairs. If there should be a reshuffle then President Mahama should be the first person to be reshuffled. He [Mahama] has failed Ghanaians. Ghana is now on ‘auto pilot’ and nobody seems to care,” he said.

As parts of an ongoing ministerial reshuffle that begun last week, President John Mahama over the weekend appointed Kweku Rickets Hagan as DeputyMinister for Trade and Industry.

Also Benita Sena Okity-Duah, who was a Deputy Minister for Gender, Children & Social Protection has been asked to go to the Ministry for Fisheries and Aquaculture as a Deputy Minister.

Mr. Acquinas Quansah, Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture is now the new Central Regional Minister.

In accordance with Article 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the president also nominated the following as Deputy Ministers of State. They include Mrs. Mona Quartey Ministry of Finance; Mrs. Dela Sowah, Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection; and Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, Ministry of Health.

In other appointments, former chief of staff under the Mills administration, Alex Segbefia is now Deputy Minister for Defense.

Deputy Minister for Employment and Labor Relations, Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere has also been nominated as Eastern Regional Minister.

And the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Yaw Effah Baafi is now Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs.

Other Deputy Ministers were also re-assigned as part of the on-going changes in government.

analysing the new ministerial reshuffle on Oman FM in Accra, Sammy Awuku said the newly appointed minsters will bring no positive impact in an already failed administration.

“…The new ministers cannot make any meaningful impact because the support the system has to give to them is non-existent,” he noted.
