Black Stars midfielder, Andre Dede Ayew is still ruing the lost opportunity to claw a vital win in last Saturday match against Germany.
The Ghanaians had defied all odds and confounded the pundits with a vintage show as they held the world soccer powerhouse to a 2-2 draw in one of the thrilling encounters of the 2014 World Cup.
In an interview with Radio France International, the Olympic Marseille star said he was disappointed the ‘Die Mannschaft’ were able to salvage a point last Saturday evening, despite Ghana’s spirited effort.
He contended that a win would have made qualification quite easier for the Stars, who needed a win badly to firmly stand any chance of qualifying to the Round of 16.
According to Ayew, the current situation makes a good result from the Portugal-USA played yesterday crucial to the Stars.
“We are disappointed. We showed good things, that we can live with a big team. I said against the USA that we lost because of one error and that they are not above our level. I think we are disappointed because of the manner we have conceded the goals.
“To concede from a set piece at this level is unpardonable,” he said.
Ayew stated: “The Germans had a bit of luck this evening. On the first goal, Mario Gotze headed the ball badly against his knee and then it went in. Then the Miroslav Klose goal was scored with a flick on. The big teams often get such breaks against teams like us. Today, we are disappointed, but we are still in the running.”
“We’ll watch the match tomorrow and we’re relaxed. We’re still there. In five days, I’m very confident we’ll finish the group well and beat the Portuguese. Like I said, I’ve got confidence in the team. We have much desire and determination. Today we have shown a good face, even though we didn’t win.
“We will not look at the negatives but instead the positives. I think we have tonight to recuperate and look forward with hope, he added.”
