Controversial Ghana’s deputy sports minister Joseph Yammin has confirmed ONLY supporters and sympathizers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be flown to Brazil to support the Black Stars at the World Cup.
The country’s sports chief Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah confirmed this week that 500 Ghanaian fans will fly out to the South American country to cheer on the Black Stars at the global showpiece.
The country’s deputy sports boss insists majority of the supporters of the ruling government will be given the opportunity to travel to Brazil to support the team.
“We’re taken supporters to Brazil. I will say without a shred of doubt that majority of those supporters will be members of NDC,” he said
“In 2006, about 250 supporters were sent to Germany and my checks indicate that only seven NDC members were part of the team.
“I will not be hypocrite and say we’ll share it equally. You can take it or leave it. We’ll give them their small number and ensure majority of the people we send are NDC supporters.
“They are the people who brought the party to power and so they must benefit from the party.
“You can say whatever you want, but NDC supporters are going to Brazil.
The former Ashanti regional secretary is not new in courting controversy after he ‘read’ politics in Ghana’s World Cup group decider against Zambia in September last year.
He urged the team to beat the Chipolopolo to further the cap of his government – a comment which drew wild criticism from many Ghanaian fans.
