New Patriotic Party [NPP] Member of Parliament [MP] for Assin-Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has described former Attorney General, Martin Amidu as a “real citizen” who needs to be honored by the nation for his pivotal role in the Woyome-judgement debt saga.
His comment comes after the Supreme Court of Ghana ordered businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome to refund a total of ?51.2 million judgement debt payment he received between 2009 and 2010.
The decision to refund the gargantuan amount paid to him wrongfully was after Mr. Amidu had prayed to the Supreme Court and insisted that Alfred Woyome, Waterville and Isofoton, had no valid contract to be paid any amount by the state in judgement debt.
Isofoton and Waterville in some months back were asked to refund the monies paid to them as judgement debt after the court failed to rule on Woyome’s case because it was pending at the High Court.
Martin Amidu also known as “Citizen Vigilante” went back to court to seek a judicial review of certain aspects of the court’s earlier decision after it declined to order the businessman to refund GHc51.2 million he received from the government in the form of judgment debt.
The former AG resigned before he was sacked by the Prof John Evans Atta Mills-led administration for his decision to make sure the NDC financier paid back the 51.2million to the state. Since then, Mr. Amidu has been a crusader for retrieval of judgement debt payment.
Discussing the issue on Okay FM, outspoken Ken Agyepong, clearly enthused by the court’s decision noted that, Ghana needs the likes of Mr. Amidu to see the betterment of the nation after admitting that “there is too much corruption in the system”.
He further stressed that, despite him [Kennedy Agyepong] being the genesis of the Woyome saga, he commends Mr. Martin Amidu for his tremendous and brave effort to help the state retrieve its money.
“He [Martin Amidu] has done very well, more than myself to fight against corruption,” he said.
