Nana Addo promises victory in 2016 as women endorse him

42252e35b5614741b34fdd423e7627cd_LA presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2016 elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured the party faithful that when he is given the nod, “nothing short of victory shall be the portion of the NPP.”

He also admonished all NPP members to conduct themselves in a manner that would give Ghanaians the confidence to entrust, once again, the mandate of leadership into the hands of the party.

Courtesy call

He stated this when some constituency and polling station women organisers of the party in the Greater Accra Region paid a courtesy call on him at his Nima residence in Accra last Tuesday.

They were at his residence to declare their support for his candidature in the run-up to the October 18, 2014 presidential primary of the party.

Led by Madam Akosua Takyiwaa, the Women’s Organiser for the Okaikoi North Constituency, the delegates were met by Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate for the 2008 and 2012 elections, and Alhaji Moctar Bamba, former National Organiser of the NPP, who had also come to visit Nana Akufo-Addo.

Women’s wing

Nana Akufo-Addo thanked the women’s wing for the “overwhelming support” they have given him ahead of the primary.

According to him, Ghanaians were praying for the return of the NPP into office, as the state of the nation under the John Mahama-led NDC government keeps worsening by the day.

Reading a solidarity message on behalf of the women’s wing, Madam Christina Nkansah, the Women’s Organiser from the La Dadekotopon Constituency, stated that they had resolved to support the candidature of Nana Akufo-Addo, adding that “we would fight tooth and nail for you to win the primary and subsequently wrest political power from the John Mahama-led NDC government.”

Citing reasons for their support, Madam Nkansah explained that the decision by Nana Akufo-Addo to contest the presidential primary of the NPP was a show of total commitment to the development of the country.

Commitment

According to her, the women’s wing of the party has realised that in the face of extreme vilification by some persons, both within and outside of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo “stood firm without looking back. Your commitment to the cause of the advancement of the party has remained unshaken.”

“Amongst all your peers, you stand tall in popularity and depth of knowledge of issues of governance. The maturity you exhibited after the historic trial challenging the result of the 2012 general election brought peace to the country. Even though the verdict contradicted the logical expectations of many who understand legal procedures and principles, you ended up accepting the verdict,” the women stated.

“It is against this background,” Madam Nkansah noted, “that the women’s wing of the NPP are backing the candidature of Nana Akufo-Addo.”

Popularity

“We declare that there is no other person in the party that has the popularity you have to lead us into the 2016 general election, if we really hope to wrest power from the NDC, who have ruined the economy and have destroyed the core foundation of the development of our dear country,” she added.

Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, who also addressed the women, welcomed their decision to back Nana Akufo-Addo, stating that this was a clear indication of victory in the upcoming presidential primaries and in the 2016 election.

The women organisers also used the opportunity to present 10 cartons of bottled water to Nana Akufo-Addo for use in refreshing guests who visited him.
