NHIA increases tariff by 12.5%

108-cape-coast-hospitalThe National Health Insurance Authority would from 1st August increase tariff paid health service providers by 12.5 percent.

This is one of several agreements reached at a meeting called by the presidency with the Christian Health Association of Ghana.

The meeting was attended by officials from Health Ministry, the Minister of State at the Presidency in charge of Regulatory Bodies, the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) and the National Health Insurance Authority.

The agreement reached on 22nd July, 2014 allowed the hospitals to resume services to NHIS card holders.

The association earlier this month withdrew services to NHIS card holders to protest delays in payments and low tariff paid to them.

Providers have repeatedly complained that the reimbursement rates for some medicines on the NHIS are too low.  The low tariff made it for the providers to prescribe more medicines.
