Drama unfolded at Kade in the Eastern Region when two rival chiefs of the town clashed over a corpse.
Reports said that three ‘Macho’ men and some police officers of the Kade Division sustained various injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia.
Three other ‘Macho’ men were said to have been arrested by the Kade Police Command in connection with the incident.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the deceased, Opanin Appiah Koran, whose corpse triggered this clash, was a royal member of the Kade Clan and a retired police officer.
According to reports, the deceased told his family that the ousted chief of Kade, Osaberima Tenadu II, should perform his funeral.
However, a chieftaincy dispute led to the destoolment of Osaberima Agare Tenadu II by the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin.
He was subsequently replaced by Osaberima Asare Twene II.
As a result, upon the demise of Opanin Appiah Koran, the Kademan Abusuapanin, Otibu Asare and the Queen mother, Nana Akua Fosuah tasked the new chief to perform deceased’s funeral.
It is alleged that during the preparation for the funeral, the ousted chief also went ahead to print funeral posters in preparation for the same funeral. He was said to have been ordered to stop his preparations.
On the day of the funeral, he allegedly hired six ‘Macho’ men from Accra to storm the venue to assault the Abusuapanin, the queen mother and some police officers who tried to prevent him from sitting under the chief’s podium.
The mourners, including some senior police officers who were at the funeral, took to their heels when the thugs started shooting and attacking the deceased’s family with cutlasses.
The victims reportedly sustained injuries on their hands and legs and were rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akulbah Yaigeh, who confirmed the incident, said that his outfit would restore calm to the area.
