It is still unbelievable and hard to swallow the news that Castro is no more. There have been scads of reports linking his ‘unconfirmed’ death. The recent one is that, the Artiste died whilst trying to save the lady who is pictured below. Her name is given as Janet ;

Here are the sad statistics. Only 3% of Ghanaians can actually swim in 6+ feet water fully buried in it for more than 20 minutes. Over 90% of that percentage cannot swim in a strong current or flowing water body.
Almost 95% of Ghanaians will go on a boat or ferry and outright refuse to wear a buoyant jacket. I am sad Castro and his girl are gone … but no one should blame any “marine spirit” for this. Ignorance kills more Africans than disease.
Let this be a lesson to our nation. Include swimming lessons as a mandatory PE activity from age 4. Make it a crime to go on a boat without a life jacket unless you produce a license that certifies you as an elite swimmer.
But then again .. it’s Ghana we are talking about .. we can’t even hold unto a national football team how much more young people desperate to take risks.
