Police shoot man during demonstration

IMG_9521-Copy-620x330A man in the Brong Ahafo region was allegedly assaulted by the Police during Organized Labour’sdemonstration in the region on Thursday.

The victim, who was mistaken for one of the demonstrators, was reportedly shot  by the Police during the protest.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, the daughter of the victim, Madam Rose Donkor, confirmed the incident, saying, “my dad happened to be assaulted but wasn’t part of the demonstrators. He happened to be one of the individuals passing by and was hit by some of the bullets.”

Narrating the incident, she stated that “my father went there[venue of the demonstration] waiting for me to bring him something and he stepping out of his car, the bullet just went out into the air.”

She stated that the Police were shooting at people indiscriminately during the protest.

“They were just shooting irrespective of who was standing there…”

She said that he was sent to the hospital and is currently responding to treatment.

“We took him to the hospital. His chest is a little swollen, but by tomorrow we should know whether he needs something more than just smearing of ointment”

Asked whether the family of the victim will pursue the matter, she stated that “the family will go for  a police report” and pursue the matter “so just in case anything happens afterwards we know we are covered.”

“This is not funny, he is an elderly man and if it had been a regular bullet, he would have been a dead man, I don’t think this should happen again,” she added.
