Prez. Mahama’s car gifts to chiefs is corruption – Methodist Bishop

10561807_602220376557896_2449134410150064382_nThe Methodist Bishop of Obuasi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu has described as ‘naked politics’ President John Mahama’s car gift to the National House of Chiefs.

According to him, in the face of the socio-economic challenges, it is unthinkable that such a colossal amount of money would be spent in what he says is a wasteful venture.

President John Mahama in fulfillment of his promise to the Chiefs on Wednesday, presented 13 four-wheel drive pick-up vehicles, one to each regional house of chiefs, one for the National House of Chiefs and two for the Chieftaincy Secretariat in Accra.

This is in a bid to strengthen the support base of the chieftaincy institution and help run the day to day activities of the secretariat.

The gesture by the president has generated a lot of controversy with many questioning the priorities of government.

In support, Rt. Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday, maintained that the cars are ‘corruptible gifts.”

He explained that it could be a ploy by government to coerce the chiefs to support their bid to win the 2016 general elections.

‘The president is corrupting them with the cars to bring the chiefs down on their knees’ he stressed.

The Methodist Bishop questioned the rationale behind such gesture when Ghanaians are saddled in abject poverty.

Rt. Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu called on the chiefs to as a matter of urgency return the cars to win back the confidence of their people.
