RAMADAN MESSAGE
BY PRESIDENT JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA
On the occasion of the beginning of the Ramadan Fasting Season, I wish to extend
felicitations and best wishes to all Muslim leaders and followers of the Islamic faith.
I recognize the importance of this pillar of Islam which aims to purify and renew the soul
of the person who fasts, to enable them function effectively in the natural world.
Ramadan is a month that calls for prayer and patience.
The faithful believe that the Almighty Allah accepts the prayers of the Muslim who is
fasting. As you go through the human challenge of physical hunger and embark on
deeper spiritual exercises by day and night, we trust that you will become better placed
spiritually to present the petitions of our nation before Allah the Almighty.
Government will continue to do the very best to lessen the burdens that all Ghanaians,
and indeed all Muslims, are having to bear at this moment. As we strive with every
effort to overcome the challenges that confront us I entreat you to pray for the success
and prosperity our nation. Together, our common prayer should remain anchored in
our faith, hope and ability to overcome these temporary challenges.
I urge you during this Ramadan to show the generosity that the Holy Prophet
Mohammed exhibited during this fasting month. Do all within your power to show
kindness, charity and compassion for the poor.
The patience and tenacity you develop throughout this month-long fasting should help
improve our understanding of each other towards peace and prosperity.
I wish you a successful, purposeful and refreshing Ramadan.
