Transport fares goes up today

427540494_910526Metro Mass Transit Ltd. has announced that it transport fares across the country would remain unchanged despite the 15% increment in transport fares.

Transport operators on Saturday announced that effective Monday July 14, transport fares would go up by 15%.

The increment was reached after consultations between the Transport Ministry and the transport operators represented by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC).

The increment was planned to coincide with the hiking in petroleum products at the pumps.

The price of petrol (premium) saw the highest increase, up 23.08 percent. This means a litre of the commodity, which used to sell at GH¢2.73 per litre would from Monday sell at GH¢3.36 a litre.

Kerosene saw an increase of 23.75 percent and diesel 22.01 percent.

Premix fuel increased by 25.60 per cent to GH¢1.57 per litre. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) saw an increase of 15.68 percent, selling now at GH¢3.32 per litre according to the latest NPA figures.

But in a letter signed by Bernice Akologo, Ag. Head of Communications, Metro Mass Transit Ltd., said “Metro Mass Transit Ltd., is pleased to inform its cherished passengers that our fares will remain the same across the country despite the 15%
increase in transport fares announced by transport operators.”

Passengers of MMT have therefore been advised to always insist on their tickets anytime they board MMT buses, as it promises to remain “Ghana’s safest, reliable and affordable means of transport across the length and breadth of the country”.

The general public have also been urged to call MMT’s toll free line 0800-10-400 with their complaints, enquiries and suggestions.
