New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, says he feels vindicated after he was nearly charged with treason for exposing the fraudulent deals in the judgment debt payment to Alfred Agbesi Woyome following the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling against the self-styled financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Alfred Agbesi Woyome was dealt another legal blow by perhaps his arch-foe, Martin Amidu, after the Supreme Court ordered him (Woyome) to refund to the state, the Ghc 51.2 million he illegally received.
In all, the former Attorney-General has knocked down Mr. Woyome thrice; the WATERVILLE ruling on June 14, 2013, where Waterville was expected to refund 25 million Euros it received from the government following the court’s unanimous ruling that the said contract it entered into with the government for stadia construction for the CAN 2008 was unconstitutional; the ISOFOTON Ruling on June 21, 2013, where the court ordered Isofoton S.A. to refund the cedi equivalent of $325,472 it received from the government in March, 2011 and finally Tuesday’s JUDICIAL REVIEW APPLICATION ruling.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday, ruled that the contracts upon which he made and received the claim was in contravention to Article 181 (5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which requires such contracts to be laid before and approved by Parliament.
The eleven-member panel included Julius Ansah, Sophia Adinyira, Rose Owusu, Jones Dotse and Anin Yeboah.
The others were Paul Baffoe Bonnie, N. S. Gbadegbe, Vida Akoto Bamfo, A. A. Bennin and J.B. Akamba.
It was presided over by the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood.
Expressing satisfaction with the court’s ruling, Hon. Ken Agyapong in an interview with the host of Okay Fm’s “Adeakye Abea” Morning Show, showered praises on Martin Amidu for a good job done in the Woyome case, adding his (Amidu’s) kind is needed to shape the nation in a positive way as he stood for the truth against his party (NDC) when the information hit the public domain.
“I give him the credit because what I brought to the public domain, if he has not taken the matter up within the NDC, it would have ended in vain. Today he has vindicated me; because of the Woyome, Betty Mould-Iddrisu and Barton-Odro case, NDC wanted to charge me for treason….this will be a lesson for many Ghanaians. It must be established that the judgment debt does not involve only Woyome and so for now they should go after Betty Mould-Iddrisu and Ebo Barton-Odro. Barton-Odro said the government didn’t have any case over the judgment debt with Woyome and that it was good the matter was settled in that way….now if it has been proven that government had a case, then Barton-Odro and Betty Mould-Iddrisu should be prosecuted; Betty is responsible for the economic crises the country is going through now”, he asserted.
