Nemanja Matic believes Cesc Fabregas can inspire Chelsea to the Premier League title this season.
The Blues spent €37 million to acquire the Spain international from Barcelona earlier this summer, the former Arsenal captain having scored 13 goals in all competitions last season.
And Matic believes Fabregas could prove to be the final piece in Jose Mourinho’s jigsaw as the club look to improve on last season’s third-place finish.
“He has big quality with the ball and he is a great player who will help us a lot. A player like that can win everything.”” Matic told the Daily Mirror.
“He has big quality with the ball and he is a great player who will help us a lot. A player like that can win everything.”
Matic scored in Chelsea’s 3-1 pre-season victory over Vitesse on Wednesday and thinks the club are strong enough to challenge on all fronts in 2014-15, with Mourinho having also signed Diego Costa and Filipe Luis in the close-season.
“The way we play has changed,” he added. “This Chelsea is a much younger team but we still know we can do a lot and we improve every day with the manager. This team has a good future.
“I am very confident for the new season. Chelsea are in good shape and we want to win the title.
“Last season was very difficult for us. In some, if I can say some ‘small’ games, we lost points a home. That decided our season. This year we will try not to make the same mistakes.
“We know what we have to do and we are prepared for everything. There are five or six teams that will fight for the title and it’s going to be hard. But we are strong and we will fight until the end.”
