Ghana is ‘’a collapsed state’’ – Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings

Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings says Ghana going to the International Monetray Fund (IMF) for a bailout is a clear indication that the country is not doing well.

‘’No country goes to the IMF when you are doing well; when you are doing well you don’t go to the IMF, You only call on the IMF when you are collapsing,’’ she told Accra based Adom FM on Wednesday.

According to her no country doing well economically defers to the IMF for support. She noted that Ghana is heading in the direction of ‘’a collapsed state’’.

Mrs. Konadu added that if the IMF provides support for a nation and the nation fails to address issues of corruption and building infrastructure ‘’you will always go back to them.’’

‘’When you go to the IMF it is not because you are a strong country; you only go there when you are a weak and collapsed country,’’ she reiterated.

She also dismissed reports in a section of the Ghanaian media that she plans to rejoin the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, some media reports on Tuesday suggested that the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement was rejoining the party she helped found in 1992.

Mrs Rawlings described the reports as baseless and unfounded.

“I am not moving away from the NDP and I have not changed my mind. Conditions for which I left the NDC are still rife. Corruption in the party, disrespect and even the unbridled thievery in the party accounted for my exit. Intolerance and untruthfulness on the part of the party leadership played a key role in my exit,” Mrs Rawlings told Accra-based Adom FM.

In her view, some journalists in the country are fond of publishing stories about her and her husband in a bid to promote and sell their newspapers.
