“Nana Konadu not joining corrupt party like the NDC in 2016” – Owusu Bempah

5946588583600_4983270441544The National Democratic Party (NDP) has refuted media reports suggesting their 2012 flag bearer Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings is returning to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

An Accra based newspaper The Republic reported that the 2012 flag bearer of the NDP who broke away from the NDC in 2011 has been approached by top NDC stalwarts lobbying for her return.

The paper alleged the former first lady has asked to be President Mahama’s running mate as a precondition for her return to the NDC.    But Communications Director of the NDP, Ernest Owusu Bempah described the reportage as palpable false.

He stated unequivocally that the former first lady has not been approached and is not leaving the NDP.

Owusu Bempah claimed “some party members who have gone back to the NDC are using Mrs. Rawlings as a bargaining chip for their selfish gains”.

The NDP man maintained that such fabrications are part of a grand scheme to break the ranks of the NDP ahead of the 2016 general election.   “Mrs. Rawlings is happy where she is and has no intentions of joining a corrupt party like the NDC in 2016” he stressed.

Nana Konadu, the first ever female to lead a political party in Ghana was disqualified from contesting in the 2012 presidential elections after filing her papers late.
