Robbery at 3pm in Kumasi

mm041610a_4Son of the Ashanti Regional Security Co-ordinator and host of Kumasi-based Kapital Radio’s morning show, Kojo Bempong Marfo and two others who were attacked by armed robbers last Sunday are currently receiving treatment at the emergency ward of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

They were said to have sustained gunshot injuries after the attack, which lasted about 30 minutes.

Mr Marfo was said to have visited his friend, Maxwell Ibn Wienakema, a gold dealer, at his residence at Atwima Nkoransa in the Atwima Kwanwoma District.

Mr Wienakema managed to escape unhurt while Kojo was shot in the right thigh; the garden boy in the house was also shot.

According to Kojo Marfo, the unknown gunmen subjected them to severe beatings and molestations before committing the heinous act.

He added that they took away their belongings, including mobile phones, wallets containing some cash and their wedding rings.

He said the robbers demanded money from them and his explanation of not being the owner of the house was not taken as they molested and subjected them to beatings.

He was shot in both thighs and the other persons sustained the shot wounds in their arms.

Scores of people, sympathisers and relatives thronged the hospital to ascertain the veracity of the news.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, who visited the scene of the incident, revealed that there were blood stains all over, indicating that the victims bled profusely.

DCOP Kofi Boakye says they will launch investigations into the shooting incident to track the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the father of the victim, Mr Bempong Marfo, has appealed to the sympathisers to give Kojo some time to recover from the trauma he went through, assuring that he was responding to treatment.
