For Sarkodie to react to negative media reportage is akin to pulling hair from his nostrils; he hardly pays attention to negativity, something many fans and nonfans alike applaud him for. But for the first time, Michael has spoken his heart out to Ghanaian Journalists.
Wondering how a poor boy like him (Sarkodie) is squeezing water from stones to put Ghana on the map and the fourth realm of the state (media) should rather support him and ‘vuvuzela’ his works to the world but are rather loud on his flaws surprises him.
In the song ‘free press,’ produced by Possi Gee of MOB Records, Sarkodie posits that, if not his unassailable will to further his course of putting Ghana on the global music map, he would have been ‘musically dead’ by the negative reportage thrown at him often.
The only BET award winner in Ghana confidently mention that “since Kwame Nkrumah we are proud of nothing else. Everyday pull him down cos negativity sells. They don’t f*** with me cos I know them really well, only give you interview to show you how I really fell. I went on BBC cos Komla Dumor put me on. It’s all about connect mehn, forget your songs. So my fellow Journalists don’t get me wrong, stop staying in Ghana and go and wish for more. Leave me alone, I’m really doing my best. “
“No resources, no help so I’m just, feeding off the vibes from my fans and the rest. Anytime I travel to BET it’s only me, no media men but they have the time to tweet. Listen I’m a poor boy coming from the streets, all I have is my fans and the flows on the beat.” Sarkodie reveals his source of inspiration.
The angry Sarkodie further wonders why Ghanaians applaud international Acts and still sleep on Fuse ODG. “All they know is sit on TV and say silly views. Shatta Wale this, R2Bees that. Cos of evil mind, they don’t want to face the fact. I go through the stress and you still have the guts to tell me I perform for cleaners, blacks!” he addresses reportage that he performed for cleaners and technicians during this year’sBET Awards.
‘Has Sarkodie become a local champion?’ this was a headline some months ago by a Journalist and Michael (Sarkodie) replies the reporter that, a Reporter has been on Ghana radio for 20 years without any progress but is attacking him that he is in Ghana and not going international but the said reporter could have better being a host on MTV.
According to Sarkodie, he is speaking for his fellow musical siblings and not himself alone.
