Sarkodie’s open letter to Prez. Mahama: “Is Ghana progressing or retrogressing?”

“Music is a form of journalism and I think in Ghana, Sarkodie is doing that so well” Nana Kwesi Coomson is quoted to have said this on OC Showbiz Review on Skyy Power 93.5 FM in Takoradi.

Sarkodie last night surprised Ghanaians with a release which details the flight of the Ghanaian populace. Titled ‘Inflation,’ the single posits how the suffering in Ghana has become unbearable. Not even the rich are speared in this unbearable economic crisis in Ghana, Sarkodie raps.

Lately, Sarkodie’s public relations skills have reached an impeccable height, the recent of it being the ‘free press’ and the latest, ‘inflation.’ Addressing issues like the dollarization of the economy, the erratic power supply, the rising internet bills, school fees and how Ghana is stripped of all corporations, Sarkodie asked Prez. Mahama if he is aware of all these?

In the song, Sarkodie raps “internet prices and paying the school fees of the kids, the rich who does not know poverty is shouting ‘ajiee.’ The economy should be greased, it’s cos of poverty that is why most Ghanaians do not have peace. DSTV, pocket money and seed capital for business, there is a serious crisis in my homeland. If we want to call someone who should we call?”

“The depth of potholes in our roads is more than gutters. Assemblyman is somewhere enjoying his meal. Kofi Wayo was right, nobody has money to even buy footwear. Ahhh, Ebola too has added up to the woes, abrupt poverty, we still live in it, when it is election time then you will be staring at people. When the poverty comes, he will survive it.”

According Sarkodie, the economic woes does not even spare Celebrities because price of their favourite pineapple juice has escalated to a whooping GHC7.00. Most things are stuck at the port because of how the dollar is lashing the Ghana Cedi.

He promises not to even vote because the situations do not get any better when you change a President.

Unusual for Michael Owusu Addo (Sarkodie), he ended the song without saying his mantra ‘Money no be problem’ signifying how awful the economy is.

He passionately appealed to Prez. Mahama to fix the economy. He spoke as the mouthpiece of his fans and Ghanaians as a whole.
