Emmanuel Oko Lartey is said to have hidden the victim aged 15, at an unknown place soon after he detected that the victim was pregnant.

He, however, brought the victim to Korle Gonno three weeks after she had delivered.

Charged with defilement and incest, Lartey denied the offence. However, after going through full trial, the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava found him guilty and convicted him accordingly.

The court sentenced Lartey to 10 years on the charge of defilement and 15 years on the charge of incest. Sentences are, however, to run concurrently.

The facts of prosecution, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah were that victim’s father was the complainant in the matter.

The victim now 16 years lived at Korlegonno in Accra. Lartey who resides in the same vicinity was a maternal grandfather to the victim.

During the year 2013, the victim used to run errands for the convict so she also took money from him for her upkeep.

Prosecution said Lartey took advantage of the victim and had sex with her on two occasions. The victim got pregnant but her parents realized it when the pregnancy was 32 weeks old.

ASP Acquah said when Lartey realized that the victim was pregnant; he took the victim to an undisclosed place until she delivered three weeks later.

The matter was reported to the police and Lartey was arrested.
