Paramount Chief of Adansi Traditional Area, Nana Opagyakotwere has laid bare the non-functionality of the Basic Education plus the Senior High School Certificate Examinations; two qualifying exams organized by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
According to the traditional leader, the education system should rather use the continuous assessment and an internal final examination to pass or fail students, stemming from the fact that teachers know best how to evaluate their pupils and students.
The statement was made at the ongoing Annual Delegates’ Congress of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) at Akrokeri College of Education in his address during the official launch on 19th September, 2014.
With reference to the objective of the Union which is to discuss students’ problems, alternate activities and to formulate students’ opinions on matters of mutual concern; he challenged the leaders among others to right the wrongs that militate against the ordinary Ghanaian student.
He further entreats the National Students’ Union to push buttons to scrap off the WAEC and its qualifying exams, a move that will promote quality education in the 21st century Ghanaian society.
