Residents in the Central Region who are still without electricity have been assured that power will be restored by Thursday, according to the Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah.
Residents of Agona Swedru, Apam, Swedru and other surrounding towns in the region have been without electricity for the past two days following the fire outbreak which ravaged the GRIDco substation at Winneba junction.
Citi News has learnt that engineers of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) have managed to restore power to Kasoa.
Speaking to Citi News after touring the scene of the accident, Mr. Quansah said the damage caused at the substation by last Saturday’s fire is “serious.”
He explained that power was restored to Kasoa because the GRIDCo engineers connected the area to the Mallam substation.
The engineers have assured residents that by close of Monday, power will be restored to Winneba while Agona Swedru and Apam will get electricity by Thursday.
The Minister was however unable to say the cause of the fire saying, “it’s early days yet and all we need now is to make sure we restore power then investigations will go on.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has begun preliminary investigations into the cause of the fire.
Two Fire Service officers with the Ghana national fire service station in Winneba who were knocked unconscious in their attempt to douse the fire last Saturday are said to be responding to treatment at the Winneba Municipal hospital.
