“I have left my life to God to direct me” – Kwesi Appiah

kwesi-appiah-sad-620x330In an emotional response to the World Cup Commission concerning his next career move after his recent dismissal, the former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has stated that his “life is in God’s hands”.

The 54-year old who lost his job two weeks ago, refused to feel hurt or blame anybody for his ill-fate although he acknowledged the pain of the unpleasant news naturally brings.

“I have always depended on God. I have left my life to God to direct me”, the former Black Stars captain told the Justice Dzamefe Commission investigating circumstances leading to Ghana’s poor showing at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil last June.

Reflecting over his sacking, the soft-spoken coach said “I look at the larger picture. Is it in the interest of Ghana?”

Justice Dzamefe argued that the coach was a victim of poor management systems put in place by the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He said the failure of the Ministry to pay the appearance fees of the players affected Kwesi Appiah’s preparation. This was because his team became agitated and had to boycott training to drum home their displeasure.

“The system gave you problems….Do we have the morale courage to blame the coach?” Justice Dzamefe asks Ghanaians.

The Justice Dzamefe Commission proved highly supportive and commended the coach for his good work. The commission which is focused on collecting facts turned prophetic announcing his (Appiah’s) return as inevitable.

“Mark it on the wall. You will come back”, they predicted last Thursday.

Despite calls for his sacking after Ghana’s shocking first round exit, the Ghana Football Association maintained, they had 100% confidence in the coach giving reason for renewal of his contract in a two year deal weeks to the tournament.

Barely four months in the new deal, the coach was sacked after Ghana won an African Nations Cup qualifier against Togo in Lome.

Ghana FA will name a new coach soon.

Kwesi Appiah goes down in Ghana football history as the first local coach to qualify the national team to the World Cup.
