Focus on IMF and stop the flagbearer thing – Kwesi Pratt to NPP

kwesi1For a couple of weeks now, discussions on the impending primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been rife on the airwaves; with several political and socio-economic commentators either offering an advice to the party aspirants or rather pillorying the NPP over its internal feud.

Some critics and members of the party have argued that the flagbearership contest is obviously tilted in favour of a particular candidate.

Three aspirants have pitched their names up for the contest; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Hon. Addai Nimo and Alan Kyerematen, and all have since been making efforts to snaffle the flagbearer position.

It appears the nation is much focused on the NPP, earnestly awaiting the primaries on Saturday October 18 but the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has bemoaned the over-concentration on the NPP primaries.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, Kwesi Pratt admonished the NPP faithfuls and the entire nation to expend their energies on government’s recent proposal for bailout with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and its future repercussions on the economy.

According to him, the NPP primaries have been overly digested by the public and the party; hence calling for the need for the country to shift focus.

To him, the IMF bailout should be the core issue for discussion in the public domain.

“There are major problems facing the country. Let’s address those issues instead of fighting among ourselves. They should stop the flagbearer thing and focus on developmental issues that are more important than any flagbearer race they are organizing.”

He advised NPP Communicators to be development-minded, instead of openly espousing their partisan positions.

“We must spend some time to question the provisions in that agreement. What are we going to entangle ourselves with? Is it true that we will sell out the Electricity Company of Ghana after the agreement? Is it true?”
