The Ghana Football Association is set to announce a permanent coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars, after wrapping up interviewing sessions for three aspiring coaches in Accra over the weekend.
Avram Grant, Michel Pont and Juan Ignacio Jiminez all faced the GFA’s interview panel to pitch for the job, outlining why they must be appointed to lead the Black Stars for the next two years.
Grant, the ex-Chelsea manager, was the last to take his turn with the panel on Saturday following similar sessions with Jiminez earlier on Saturday and Pont on Friday.
The interview panel say they will be presenting their report to the Ghana FA’s Executive Committee despite reports of the expected late arrival of Bernd Schuster for an interview.
“We don’t know about that [Schuster’s arrival]. We are for now done with the interviews and will be presenting our report on Monday,” GFA Vice President and member of the interview panel Fred Crentsil told the media in Accra.
“I don’t know whether there will be anymore developments but then we have interviewed three coaches and we will be presenting a report on that on Monday (today).”
Marco Tardelli failed to show up for the interview – preferring to have his session done in Europe – a preference the GFA flatly rejected.
The GFA is desperate to name a new coach before the last batch of 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers against Togo and Uganda in November.
Ghana currently leads Group E of the qualifiers with eight points from four games.
