Ghana 3-1 Guinea

820f9dc3e942b5e954c332bd14c4bc4c_LGhana’s Black Stars had to dig into their reserve of experience, coupled with sheer determination and resilience, to ward off a threat from a daring Guinean side to run away with a 3-1 victory in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Tamale stadium Wednesday.

Buoyed on by the vociferous home fans who occupied every available space in the 21,000 capacity stadium, the stars came back strongly and confident in the second half of the cagey game to register two more goals in the 59th and 91st minutes through a penalty by Dede Ayew and Agyeman Badu respectively.

The skipper of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan registered the first goal on the 14th minute after diminutive Solomon Asante had weaved his way through the defence of the Syli Nationale and released the ball to Jordan Ayew who eventually passed it to Djan to tap it in.

Geared on by the partisan crowd, the stars continued their forays into the Guinean defence but failed to convert the opportunities into goals as Jordan and Djan messed up their chances after Yattara Mousa was completely misplaced in the 26 and 27th minutes respectively.

The visitors, rallied on by their dangerman, Yattara Lamine returned the pressure with a skilful passing of the ball that occasionally mesmerise the pourous defence of the stars and threatened an equaliser..

Lamine’s efforts however paid off in the 33rd minute through a spot kick after the ball ricocheted off the defensive wall of the home team falling into the striker’s nimble foot for a deserved equaliser.

The goal unsettled the stars who were slow in their recovery efforts as if there was nothing at stake allowing the Guineans to gain some confidence to attack in droves but were warded off by the resilience of the stars defence led by Awal Mohammed and Jonathan Mensah.

Sensing the danger their opponents displayed, the homesters came back from recess with much passion and vigour in their play as they piled on pressure on the Guineans for the needed goals to appease their untiring fans who braced the heat in the stadium to cheer them on.

And in spite the delay tactics by their opponents to slow down the game, the twinkle twinkle little stars still prevailed culminating in Dede Ayew’s goal after a Guinean defender, Camara Fode handled the ball in the box.

Asamoah Gyan nearly made it three with a beautiful header in the 64th minute but the Guinean keeper, Moussa expertly parried it over the bar for a wasted corner kick.

Kwadwo Asamoah received a needless yellow card in the 66th minute for dissent after committing a foul in the 66th minute. Rabiu Mohammed subsequently squandered an prospect to increase the tally after he selfishly attempted scoring when Dede was all alone in the box.

The Guineans who were now chasing their shadows had to bring in fresh legs to lift up their game as Camara Lanfia came in for Camara Abdoul Lamine in the 67th minute.

Edwin Gyimah also took the position of Jordan Ayew who seemed to have run out of steam while Wakaso also came in for visibly tired Solomon Asante who was a delighted the passionate fans with his dexterity on the ball in the first half.

In the 83rd minute, hard working Andre Ayew who had to give way for enterprising Agyeman Badu whose fresh limps unleashed a low drive to beat keeper Mousa to put the icing on the cake for the stars after Baba Rahman had waxed through the legs of the Guineans to lay him the pass.
