Kwabena Acheampong was said to have, for a while, been frustrated by his baby daughter’s inability to walk, but on Sunday, his anger allegedly drove him to beat the child to death.

Narrating the incident to Nana Osei Ampofo Adjei of Adom News, the mother of the deceased, Abena Frimponmaa, said her husband told her he had bought some medicine which could make their daughter, Ama Konadu walk.

“Little did I know that he had planned to kill my baby,” she lamented.

Abena Frimponmaa said she has suffered assault at the hands of her husband several times over the past two years she has been married to Acheampong, .

Mampong District Police Commander, Superintendent Bismark Agyepong confirmed the incident to Adom News, saying the suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

He said during interrogation, Acheampong said he gave the child medicine with the intention of helping her to walk but the medicine killed her.

Superintendent Agyepong said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue pending autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the Chief Psychiatrist of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Akwasi Osei said the man might be suffering from a mental problem.

He has therefore suggested that the suspect undergo psychiatric examination.
