Nana Addo reveals: I prayed, ate communion to see me through

Nana Akufo-Addo says he started his day with prayer and communion as he looked forward to being elected for the third time to lead the NPP to the National elections.

About 140,000 delegates voted as the largest opposition party in Ghana held its presidential primary across the country today, Saturday, October 18, 2014 to elect its presidential candidate for the 2016 general elections.

Nana Akufo-Addo is facing a fierce contest from a former Trades and Industries Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and the MP for Ashanti Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh.

Having retreated to his office after casting his ballot at the party’s headquarters at 10am, he told Joy News’ Francis Abban he was satisfied with today’s process barring some reported hitches.

As a Christian, he invited God to take control of the event in  the early morning.

“The Priest came to pray for me and give me communion early in the morning…to see me through today,” he stated.

Reports reaching his office from the length and breadth of the country “suggest the election has been peaceful,” Akufo-Addo.

He prayed the reported hitches would not affect many people.

Asked about his chances, though optimistic, he replied, “I will not say I am confident of winning until the election result is declared in the country despite the intermittent hitches.

“Election in the country has been funny, when one is sure of victory it goes the other way,” he observed.

“The most important thing is that the process is going on and people are voting”.

Akufo-Addo also remarked that the expanded electoral college which he championed will make the elected leader “authoritative, more grounded and secure in his acceptance”.

“My own adversary and friend, Jerry John Rawlings himself has been advocating something like this for his own party. That in itself is an indication that we have done something positive”, he cited.

Asked whom he voted for, he laughed off and said “it is a secret. My vote is secret you must remember that”.
