NDC youth chase out Sisala DCE

An irate youth group of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region on Monday attacked the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Moses Luri.

They impounded his official vehicle and chased him out of his residence at Gwollu, the District capital.

They also besieged his office and blocked all major roads leading to the town.

The incident happened after the DCE returned from an official visit to Accra where he had been for the past two weeks.

Not even the palace of the paramount chief of the Gwollu traditional area where the DCE sought refuge could save him from the angry youth.

It took the swift intervention from the Police who managed to sneak him out through a window to save Mr. Moses from being lynched.

The youth group has been agitating for the past week for the removal of Moses Luri, claiming the district has not seen any form of development under his administration.

They accused him of engaging in corrupt practices and also failing to address the concerns of grass root supporters of the governing NDC.

Moses Luri confirmed the incident to Citi News but said the attack was motivated by Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area who doubles as the Upper West Regional minister.

Moses Luri narrated  ”I went to Gwollu and on my entry I met the demonstrators on the way. So I proceeded to the residency but they followed up and besieged the place. It took about 3 hours to control the situation. We decided to hold an emergency District Security Meeting where leaders of the group were invited. In the meeting it came out that the matter was politically motivated because the regional minister gave them the brass band. When we tried to find out why, they said he made me DCE and I want to take his position”. The beleaguered DCE has since been sent to Tumu in the Sissala East for his safety and to bring calm to Gwollu.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana has vehemently denied any involvement in the disturbance.

He said the allegations by Moses Luri are false accusations to tarnish his hard earned reputation.

The MP repelled “I am highly disgusted by the allegations the DCE leveled against me. I have never been associated to violence whatsoever in my entire political life. How can anyone associate me to such an incident? My records are there from 1992.”

Alhaji Sulemana admonished the DCE to desist from peddling false information about him.

“I believe 2016 is still far. I have many things to do before 2016, if the DCE wants to contest he should prepare and contest I don’t have a problem with that,” he said.

The regional minister advised the youth to eschew all negative tendencies.
