Prez. Mahama congratulates Nana Addo

1.1874550President John Dramani Mahama has patted Akufo-Addo on the back for emerging as winner of the New Patriotic Party flagbearer contest.

The former Attorney General under the Kufuor-led administration in a landslide victory polled 117,413, representing 94.35%, as against 5,908, representing 4.75%, by Alan Kyerematen.

The other contender, Francis Addai-Nimoh secured 1,198 votes, representing 0.91%, at the NPP primaries over the weekend.

The next general elections of Ghana scheduled to take place on December 7, 2016 will be the second time Akufo-Addo is contesting the National Democratic Congress’ candidate – Mahama – after failing to beat the late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2008.

Mahama, who succeeded Mills, extended his congratulations to Akufo-Addo in a brief message while travelling to the UK on an official visit.

“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been my colleague in Parliament. Definitely, I congratulate him and I’m sure I will send a congratulatory message to him. I just heard about the results as I was flying to the UK,” Mahama told his press corps.

President Mahama is expected to meet Queen Elizabeth II and other dignitaries in the UK and Denmark before returning to Ghana next week.
