Prez. Mahama expresses shock over Zambia president’s death

297159440_502144President John Dramani Mahama has expressed shock over the death of President Michael Sata of Zambia.

“President Sata’s death creates a sense of loss in Zambia and leaves the people in a situation that many Ghanaians can identify with, considering the sudden death of President Atta Mills two years ago,” says President Mahama.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sata family and people of Zambia at this difficult time,” he added.

“President Sata has demonstrated that anyone can rise from humble beginnings to the highest office of the land through passion, persistence and deep patriotism,” Mahama said. He may have changed party affiliations a number of times but stayed true to his political convictions as a social democrat and to his commitments as a public servant.”

President Mahama, on his own behalf and on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, extended deep sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Sata, and to the Government and people of Zambia.

Michael Sata died at the age of 77 after receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, the government said. President Sata, who was being treated in the UK, died in London’s King Edward VII hospital on Tuesday night. The media said that he died after “a sudden onset [of] heightened heart rate.”
