US Vice President Joe Biden’s son dismissed from Navy for cocaine use

joe-bidenThe son of US Vice President Joe Biden has been discharged from the Navy after testing positive for cocaine.

Hunter Biden, 44, who joined the Navy Reserves as an ensign in 2012, failed the test in June 2013 but was not kicked out until 2014, a US official told NBC News.

His dismissal was not made public “because he was treated like any other sailor who fails a drug test and is thrown out of the Navy”, another official added.

Biden – who is married with three children – said he was “embarrassed” by his actions which ended his brief military career.

“It was the honour of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge,” Biden said in a statement through his lawyer.

“I respect the Navy’s decision. With the love and support of my family, I’m moving forward.”
