4th time: Kumasi central market gutted by fire

ab_fireFire gutted parts of the Kumasi Central market on Monday night destroying properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.

It is unclear what caused the fire but the personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were able to douse the fire, preventing it from spreading quickly.

“Fire Service personnel were quick enough to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the market,” he added.

This is the fourth time in 2014 that fire has gutted portions of the market.

Earlier this year, close to 40 shops were wiped out by fire in the market, prompting debate over how to perpetually prevent such infernos in Ghana’s market.

Similar incidents occurred in many parts of the country in 2013, prompting government to bring in special investigators from the United States and elsewhere to investigate the numerous fires in the country’s markets.

Government however did not make public any findings or proposed solutions to the matter after the investigators left.
