The National Service Scheme (NSS) has resumed payment of allowances to national service personnel after suspending the operation following the Bureau of National Investigations’ review of the outfit’s payment processes.
The NSS has therefore directed all immediate past national service personnel who have not yet been paid their July and August, 2014 allowances to contact their respective district directors of the Scheme for payment.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by the acting Executive Director of the Scheme, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte reminded all such personnel that they would be required to complete declaration forms which must also be duly endorsed by their supervisors before they are paid their allowances.
The statement commended all affected immediate past national service personnel for their patience, and urged them to co-operate with staff of the Scheme to make the exercise a success.
It will be recalled that the payment of allowances to 2013/14 National Service Personnel was suspended earlier this year to enable the BNI undertake a thorough review of the NSS payment processes following allegations of financial malfeasance against its former director Alhaji Imoro Alhassah.
