Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panyin blasts gov’t

His_Royal_MajestyOkyenhene_Osagyefuo_Nana_Amoatia_Ofori_PaninKing_of_Akyem_AbuakwaGhanaAfrica.The Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin  has criticised government for abandoning roads in the Eastern Region.

He lamented that various governments have over the years ignored appeals to develop roads in the region.

Addressing Chiefs at the 2014 Okyeman Congress at Bunso in the region Amoatia Panyin said : “It does not make any sense that if you want development to connect disadvantaged people in their communities, you have to build a super highway to enable the flow of goods and services. Forget about the road of Asamankese and beyond. I spoke to the President about the deplorable nature of our roads but nothing has been done about it.”

He therefore called on influential people within the region to use their positions to push the developmental agenda of the region.

“It is up to us now to do it ourselves and I charge everybody to push the agenda to get our roads done. We have been ignored by successive governments for the past fifty years, but I have always played my part by telling these governments about what we need by way of development.”

This is not the first time concerns have been raised over the poor state of roads in Ghana.

Responding to the complaints, the Ministry of Roads and Highways said most roads across the country are undergoing maintenance works, or have been awarded for rehabilitation and extension.

The deputy Minister disclosed that there are maintenance works being undertaken on the Tema Motorway to patch potholes “and this time, it is not the ordinary bitumen, it is asphalt pothole patching on that stretch.
