What J.J. Rawlings said about Prophet Kumchacha and Obinim

Former President Jerry Rawlings does not seem to like Bishop Daniel Obinim of God’s Way International Ministries and his colleague, Prophet Nicholas Osei, popularly known as Kumchacha, of Heaven Gate Ministries, as he turns his arsenals on them.

Mr Rawlings believes the two ‘men of God’ are using their positions to exploit their ‘ignorant’ followers.

In a rare public attack, Mr Rawlings said “…They are so brave in the kind of things they purport, the kind of things they do. Ladies and gentlemen, when people watch things like this, knowing very well that they are not achieving what they claim they are doing, we end up perpetuating the ignorance and the grip of these people on the ignorance of our people.”

He was speaking during a durbar to crown the 2014 Amu (brown rice) Festival of the chiefs and people of the Avatime Traditional Area at Avatime Gbadzeme in the Volta Region last Saturday.

The former President could not fathom why more airtime and space are given to such pastors by the media, especially the radio and television stations, when same could be used to promote the rich cultures, traditions and festivals of Ghana as a country.

“Many too often as we watch our TVs, I don’t think we are putting enough efforts into showcasing some of these cultural, traditional festivals – the activities that are going on around the countryside – and yet so much time is spent giving airtime, precious airtime to people like these two prophets I’ve been talking about of late: the one in Tema, called Obinim and the other one called Kumchacha,” he said, insisting that some of the claims often made by the two pastors are not real.

It was for this reason that the obviously unhappy former President said “the misuse of God’s name is the worst form of corruption that we can talk about…and we are paying the serious price for it, and we will continue to do so till we wake to the reality of what is scientifically possible, plausible and doable.”

Mr Rawlings therefore asked managers of various media houses, including radio and television stations, to stop giving airtime to Bishop Obinim and Kumchacha and their likes who, he said, continue to deceive people in the name of God.

Prophet Kumchacha however disagrees with the former President.

Speaking on Accra-based Okay FM, he touted himself as a genuine man of God who would not deceive any individual, let alone his congregation and followers, for earthly things.

“I have served the Lord for so many years and no one has ever had any claims against me. I believe in this work. We (prophets) will face challenges…even Jesus Christ faced challenges so I am not worried about Rawlings,” he said.

Even though he was not enthused about the former President’s comments, the ‘man of God’ said “President Rawlings is my father and my former President. Aside that, I will be very glad to have him as a family member. I really respect him. He has expressed his opinion and he is entitled to that.

“I don’t have to speak big English to be a prophet or to be real. President Rawlings must know that my work is a calling from God. Does he [President Rawlings] want me to speak big vocabs? Maybe with that he will believe I am real,” he noted.

He however quoted Luke 6:26 which reads: “Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you; for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets”, to justify his position.
