Even in this age in Ghana where the Creative Arts boast of a ministry, there is unsatisfied hunger by many that, the concentration is always on the big names to the neglect of the up and coming. This is a cry across all sectors of creative arts particularly the fashion sector.
‘RIP the runaway,’ is therefore launched to allow upcoming fashion designers to explore their full potential and to branch out of their comfort zone and dare to be creatively diverse.
The show which will be extensively covered by national and international media will also give the already established fashion designers the needed publicity to showcase their products to the world.
In addition, ‘RIP the runway’ will attract the participation of makeup artists, hair stylists and stunning runway models. Even though this is aimed at giving the up and coming all the necessary publicity to propel their works, already established fashion designers like Aya Morrison and others will be there to pep up the amateurs to push beyond their limits and share knowledge with them to meet the international standard.
“The concept of this show is to create a relaxed environment for fashionistas to enjoy a first rate runway show and have the opportunity to place orders and interact with the designers,” Emmanuella Sagoe, an organizer of the event said.
The event which will come off at the plush African Regent Hotel in Accra will treat attendees with the latest of fashion and cocktail at call. Designers will be available to take orders on the spot and also “boutique and specialty fashion buyers covering the designer to highpriced fashion market, fashion representatives, selected VIP’s, socialites and corporate sponsors are also sure to enjoy this experience,” Emmauella detailed.
According to the organizers they settled on African Regent Hotel because of the plush nature and its rich cultural setting.
“This is a positive event for Ghana and the textile industry and will create job opportunities for stylists, models and others involved and affiliated with the fashion industry. Designers can showcase their collections on a modest budget. Fashion buyers will have additional choices” organizers outlined the benefits of the event.
