PHOTO: Armed robbers kill 2 at Aflao

landlord-620x400Suspected armed robbers reportedly went on a robbery expedition at Abeliakofe, near the Aflao border in the Ketu South District of the Volta Region, from last Sunday night to dawn on Monday. They were said to have killed two people and injured three others in the process.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers initially terrified people along the beach and robbed shops and bars before venturing into a nearby house to rob and kill two relatives.

The deceased, who have been identified as Musah Mohammed and Abdulai Ishaq, have since been sent to the morgue of the Ketu South Government Hospital. Three other victims who sustained various degrees of injury are receiving treatment at the same hospital. They include the landlord, his wife and their child.

Robbery At The Beach

Kofi Ahiakpor, an attendant at Pledge Bar, told DAILY GUIDE, “We were at the beach last night between 11pm and 12 midnight when we heard people screaming and running helter-skelter. Some people had come wielding guns like AK 47 and held customers hostage and then gave warning shots.”

He added, “Three people pointed the gun at me and requested for my money. Two of them hit my throat with their guns and I gave them all the proceeds. One had wanted to stab me, but the others prevailed on him not to and they left.”

As though that was not enough, the robbers allegedly went on to terrorise other vendors and robbed them as others took to their heels. Kofi Ahiakpor revealed that one of his relatives went ahead to report the case at the police station.

“Interestingly, the police took time in responding,” Kofi added. He continued, “The police called me and I went to the police station to report the incident and my statement was taken. The assemblyman also came to report of another robbery.”

That notwithstanding, the police were said to be initially hesitant in moving to the crime scene. “They rather complained of not having fuel. So after several discussions, they joined us (the assemblyman and me) and we went to the scene, but the robbers were long gone,” Ahiakpor narrated.

Military ID Card

The police loitered around and left to return in the morning.

Kofi Ahiakpor said he rummaged around the scene in the morning and found about five bullets and a military ID card which he handed over to the Aflao Crime Officer.

Zibrilla Issufa, an uncle of the deceased, said he got to the scene at about 1:30 am after the robbers had finished their operation.

He said, “They entered Musah’s room and killed him, then came out and shot two people, killing one and injuring the other in the thigh. The Aflao police are currently tight-lipped about the incident, but assured that investigations had begun to bring the perpetrators to book.
