A 47-year-old former worker of Western Veener and Lumber Company Limited (WVLC), George Guildford has renounced his Ghanaian citizenship for what he describes as indifference of those in authority to address the suffering of the ordinary Ghanaian.
Speaking to Philip Osei Bonsu on the Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show (JBS) in Takoradi, Mr. Guildford who worked with the defunct WVLC for 24 years claims he and other colleagues numbering 600 are yet to receive their severance package after efforts to claim what is due them including petition to the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho.
Speaking to www.233times.net, Mr. Guildford, the father of 3 has thus returned his passport to the Ghana Immigration Service, his Voter’s ID card to the Electoral Commission and his National Identification card to the Ministry of Justice. According to him, he is living in Ghana not as a citizen but under a privilege not by right even though he was born and bred in Ghana and to Ghanaian parents from Cape Coast and Asankragwa.
The no-more-Ghanaian Guildford says his father who worked with the same company (WVLC) for about 35 years suffered a similar fate resulting in his death.
