Jerry Essoh, 35, escaped after allegedly shooting his wife to death because she had asked him to legalise their ‘marriage’ of 15 years by going to pay her bride price.

The suspect’s father, Raymond Essoh, and his uncle, Edward Sam, who owns the gun used to carry out the dastardly act, have also been arrested to assist in investigations.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Agona Nkwanta District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Samuel Osei, said members of the community went on a man-hunt for the principal suspect soon after news broke about the heinous murder.

He said the suspect was arrested in the bush later in the evening and handed over to the police.

Mr Osei commended the chiefs and people of Ewusiejo for their support.

Background

Essoh last Monday reportedly shot and killed his wife for asking him to perform the marriage rites to legalise their 15-year-old marriage.

The marriage, which produced eight children, had the deceased, Janet Yankeh, as the sole breadwinner of the family.

Currently, the eight children are in the custody of their grandmother.

Janet, had asked him to perform the marriage rites or she would leave the matrimonial home.
