Prez. Mahama fires 2 DCEs

jirap-dce-vivien-nelly-kunkoPresident John Dramani Mahama has terminated the appointments of two District Chief Executives(DCEs). The two, Moses Dramani Luri of Sissala West and Vivian Kunku of the Jirapa Districts respectively are to vacate their offices with immediate effect. No reason has been assigned for the decision to remove the two from office but Vivian Kunku believes that agitation by NDC Youth in the area triggered her dismissal.

But statement signed by Local Government Minister Julius Debrah indicated that the President’s decision was in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(4) of the Local Government Act, (Act 462), 1993. Madam Vivian Kunku  has been at loggerheads with the NDC youth over the awarding of some contracts.

The frosty relationship forced the NDC youth to break into her office to demand her removal in October. The youth also attempted to destroy some properties belonging to the assembly but the timely intervention of the Police in the area saved the situation. The actions of the youth group was to protest what they termed as the DCE’s corrupt practices and disregard for party structures in the constituency. This is not the first time President Mahama has sacked his DCEs. A similar decision in September saw the dismissal of about four DCEs.
