Are Fante Rappers and Singers ready? It is your time!

1464674_782496478473037_191221697362017155_n-740x400It won’t take rocket science to convince that, music in Ghana is gradually shifting to the Fante regions. The language which was not given much attention by Songsters, even those with that as L1 is now being accepted and used by Twi speaking songsters.

Lately, most songs played on radio and events with the Fante dialect are widely embraced. Hitherto, if the song was not in the Twi dialect, non-speakers had passive way of accepting it but with songs like ‘Ossey’ by Nero X, ‘Hossana’ by Teephlow, ‘Satan’ by Ayesem, ‘Realer no’ by Pappy Kojo, ‘Oh assey’ by Kofi Kinaata, ‘Wei soh’ by Sayvee among others, which are on rotation on most listened radio stations in the capital (Accra), it is a clear indication that, the Fante Rappers and Singers now have the chance to prove themselves.

When in a popular club like Aphrodisiac and Django bar where more than half of the patrons speak Twi and are able to sing along the aforementioned songs, it is one of the many indications that, Fante Rappers and Singers are lately given ears nationally.

On 1st January this year when UTV had a topsy-turvy morning show, Pappy Kojo together with Debora Vanessa and others were interviewed and on that show, Debora Vanessa attempted speaking Fante and rapped some lines of Pappy Kojo’s ‘Realer no’ song. Abeiku Santana of OK FM this week on his popular ‘Drive Show’ compared Nero X’s ‘Ossey’ to Castro’s works. Reggie Rockstone, the CEO of Hiplife in Ghana on social media said “Fante rap is the nu ish! Fresh! Big up tee phlow! Ayesem!pappy!…..” These indicate that, the time for the Fante Rappers and Singers is nearer than expected or bet yet it’s their time.

The million dollar questions are, are the Fante Rappers and Singers ready? Have they branded themselves so well that when the music game finally settles on the door step of the Fante speaking regions, they will be competitive enough? How well are they promoting their songs? Just as some of us feel proud it is finally time for the dialect, we are also prompting you to groom yourselves so well that aside the talent, the brand would as well be accepted.

Make us proud!
