Booming business in Takoradi: Cry at funerals for GHc300

A new business pops up in the Twin City, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. The business which only requires wailing at funerals pays the contracted sympathizers GHC300 per person at a funeral.

The business has magneted a lot of the youth who are making thousands of Ghana cedis from it. Speaking to the brain behind the business, Asasewura who hosts the drive show at Spice FM in Takoradi, he said he gets calls from a lot of people showing interest in it and he is recruiting more people of all ages.

Asking him what influenced the business, he said when he was working at Ashanti Region, he was contracted by a woman to get her some people who could cry out their hearts at funerals since most of her relatives live outside the country and would not be at her Auntie’s funeral. According to Asassewura, he had 8 ladies who did that and were paid well by the woman who contracted them.

As his new job relocated him to Takoradi, he then thought of taking the business to the Metropolis and so far he has 14 employees. “We are given information about the deceased background. We then practice with those information for about a week and finally deliver at the funeral grounds” Asasewura told www.233times.net .

According to him, the staff meets with the client and agrees on the story so the staff will know the deceased professionally. The contracted mourners work between the hours of 6 – 10am when the deceased is laid in state.

Asasewura plans to expand his services to other regions of the country.
