The Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Ekow Spio-Gabrah has issued a stern warning to the General Telegraph Newspaper against further publishing what he describes as “malicious” stories claiming he and others are scheming to replace the Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.
A statement signed by his special Aide Alhaji Mohammed Naziru state: “the attention of Hon. Ekow Spio-Gabrah has been drawn to a malicious publication by the General Telegraph on Friday 30th January 2015 to the effect that the Minister of trade and Industry (Hon. Ekow Spio-Gabrah) among others, are scheming to replace incumbent Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as President John Dramani Mahama’s running mate in the 2016 general elections”.
“Ekow Spio-Gabrah wishes to make it known that he is not and will not be involved in any schemes to replace Vice President Paa Kwesi Amisah-Arthur”.
This comes in reaction to the General Telegraph Newspaper publication on Wednesday with the screaming headline; ‘3 Eye NDC’s Vice-Presidential slot- as Amissah-Arthur faces opposition’.
According to the paper, “reliable sources within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed that three top government officials who are serving ministers of state are scheming to replace incumbent Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur”
It went on to say that, “the three ministers being considered as potential Vice-Presidents are Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah, Minister of Trade and Industry; Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, Minister of Energy and Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Communications Minister”.
But Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah, in the official release, distanced himself from the publication and took strong exception to the impression created by the tabloid that he, together with others are working to unseat the second gentleman of the land.
He further admonished the said newspaper and all other media houses to desist from any further false publication regarding him (Hon. Spio-Gabrah) on the above subject.
