Power Minister promises to resign if dumsor persists after 2015

1.1926870Power Minister, Kwabena Donkor has promised to resign from his post if the current power crisis persists after December 2015.

Dr Donkor said he is confident measures being rolled out to mitigate power situation will yield positive results by end of 2015.

In an exclusive interview with Joy News’ Elton Brobbey, Dr. Kwabena Donkor offered to resign if the crisis does not end by the end of the year.

“At least the end of the year is December so you can hold me to that…Yes I will resign”, was his reply to Elton’s query whether Ghanaians would be justified in calling for his head if the situation persists by close of 2015.

For four years, the country has been battling periodic darkness leading to the introduction of a load shedding exercise.

The situation has since worsened affecting businesses and industries. Industrial enclaves across the country were recently included in the load shedding — a move that many analysts say may have far reaching implications for the country’s economy.

Government is however hopeful short term measures put in place will ease the current situation.

These short term measures include bringing in emergency power barges that will cost the state some 250 million dollars.

The country needs over 2000 megawatts of power but energy production from all thermal and hydroelectric sources currently stands below 1,300 megawatts.
