Prez. Mahama promises solar power project to barbers, hairdressers etc

20100621_ghana_560x375Government is working on a proposal that will make solar power available to barbers, hairdressers, and other micro entrepreneurs, President Mahama has revealed.

Some hairdressers, cold store operators, dressmakers among others have complained in interviews with Citi News that their businesses are collapsing because of the current energy crisis.

Other small businesses have also lamented about the effects of the power crisis on their businesses.

Some major stakeholders in the energy industry have suggested that government provides households
with solar panels to help solve the energy crisis Ghana is battling with.

Delivering the 2015 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, President Mahama pointed out that government will soon be rolling out new initiatives on solar energy this year.

He added that the “new Ministry of power is working on proposals to restructure the power sector beginning with the VRA and the Bui Power Authority.”

Some energy analysts are of the view that the current crisis can partly be attributed to government‘s inability to explore innovative ways of solving the crisis.

The President therefore reminded Ghanaians to conserve power as government takes measures to end the crisis.

“While we work on the generation side we must also look at the issue of power conservation,” the President urged.
